Most of the time people come for counselling when they themselves are unable to handle the situation. They are looking out for solution. They want to resolve their confusion. The solution evolves through the insight that emerges through counselling process. Individual counseling or therapy is a mutual process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist to explore ideas, attitudes, beliefs, feelings and behaviours between counselor and client – in a safe, caring, non-judgemental and confidential manner. The exploration is most of the time about misinterpretation of thoughts, feelings, relations and environment. In the counselling process clients identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change.
People seek therapy for varied reasons, from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, to dealing with depression or anxiety, to simply plan personal growth and to get clear self-concept. A client and therapist may work together for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy.
